Gardening Know How Questions & Answers - https://questions.gardeningknowhow.comDo you cut trumpet vines and clematis back in the fall? We get a lot of snow and very cold. I just planted the trumpet vine, and the care instructions are rather sketchy on the tag. We’ve had the clematis for several years, and it does fine, but I have never cut it back. The only thing is that when it blooms it does so on brown, dried out looking vines, which makes me wonder if I should cut it back yearly so that the vines are new and green? Thanks.

Yes, you can cut the trumpet vine back after it has died off for the year. The clematis will be a little more tricky. You will have to prune it according to its type. This article will help: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/ornamental/vines/clematis/pruning-clematis-vines.htm [1]
