Care of rose tree

Zone Saltash Cornwall | Edythe added on May 16, 2016 | Answered

I was given a rose tree on my last birthday. The variety was called Patricia, beautiful flowers and scent. I was unable to attend to it following flowering. It has grown very tall and stalky but otherwise looks healthy but with no sign of buds. Is there anything I can do to remedy this for the future?

To keep it blooming you need to dead head it/prune off the spent blooms. I do a bit of a shaping pruning after they are done blooming to keep them in the shape I like. Then more buds will come on. Also watch the nitrogen content of the fertilizer you feed her with. Too much nitrogen and you will get lots of growth and foliage but sparse to no blooms.
