Canna lily bulb

Question

One stalk of my canna lily grew a bulb on top. It broke off while the bulb is still green. How do I store it to let it mature and can I plant it in the spring? I’m in frigid Iowa so bulbs don’t survive the winter!! Thanks

That is a seed pod and you can save those to plant next year but the seeds may or may not be viable and you don't know what kind of flower you will get as most canna are hybrids. But here is an article that tells how if you want to grow from seed.
The best thing to do is dig up the rhizomes in the fall. Here is an article about that, too.
