Can you start a magnolia tree from a pod found in the spring? Do I plant the whole pod or wait for it to dry out and remove the se

eds? I recently went to New Orleans and gathered 3 pods, can they be planted as is, or do I allow them to dry out and then start them inside. We live in Indiana.
