Q.Can You Plant Rhubarb Seed?

madjack added on July 13, 2011 | Answered

My rhubarb has gone to seed. Has anyone ever planted the seed pods? Have any luck with them growing? I have planted some green ones and then dried some and planted them. They are not up yet.

Although it takes about a year or two longer to grow them from seed, it is still possible. This article should help: http://www.rhubarb-central.com/rhubarb-seeds.html

However, I would recommend growing them from crowns and cutting the blooms prior to seedpod development. Here is more information: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/edible/vegetables/rhubarb/grow-rhubarb.htm
