Can you identify if this plant is a weed or late summer bloomer?

Question

I moved into a home that had an avid gardener as a previous homeowner. I am hesitant to weed out several plants because I fear they are unique and not weeds. These plants are clustered in an area in semi shade. They are next to a columbine plant. Is it a late summer bloomer or fall?
