Q.Can tomatoes grow where they were never planted?

Planted tomatoes in ground. Around the garden I have hanging baskets. Last week I noticed tomato plants growing in two of my hanging baskets. I have had this same setup for years and never had this happen. Is this unusual-since one of the baskets has strawberries, a non compatible plant for tomatoes?

It's not uncommon to find small, volunteer tomato plants close to where they have been planted in past seasons. There are pros and cons to keeping volunteers.
