can the top be cut off ponytail palm?

My wife’s pride and joy, which is planted in the shade house down the side of our house, has been growing for over 20 years and has now reached a height of approx. 2.7m and is now pushing one of the roof panel off the shade house.

Can we cut the top out of the ponytail or just remove the panel and let it grow? There is approx. 800mm of leaf growth.

Yes, the top can be cut off of a ponytail palm and new growth will appear in a month or so. I even read that if you place the cut-off top into the soil, it will develop a root system and grow a new plant.
