Q.Can Someone Tell Me a Fig Tree Turns to a Black Bark While Dormant?

Dollconnects added on May 23, 2011 | Answered

I have a Nero Ceasar Fig. It’s 5 years old. I can’t remember if my Fig has ever turned to a black bark. It’s early spring, and new shoots are sprouting, but I’ll need to remove the center branches because of it. Unless someone can tell if this normal.

If it does not look like the bark is coming away from the branches, it is not something to be concerned about. If the bark is coming away from the branches or the leaves on the affected branches look sickly, try treating the tree with a fungicide before removing them.
