Q.Can Portulaca Survive A Winter In California

Zone 95139 | Anonymous added on July 31, 2021 | Answered

I live in San Jose, CA, and I’m planting a lot of portulaca in my front yard. Some say it will not survive the winter, and I’ll have to replant in the spring. Others say it will die back some but reestablish itself in the spring. We get a half dozen days of frost in the winter. We get a freeze every 15 to 20 years. Please tell me what your opinion is.

While they don't withstand a freeze, portulaca is famous for reseeding.
