Can I Use “Failed” Onions as Next Season Onion Sets?

I planted onion plants too late (April in SC) and managed to get onions that are between . 25 and 1. 0 in in diameter. Can I use these as sets to be planted in October?

If you have lots of room and don’t depend on them as your onions, I would try it. Not knowing what kind of onions they are hinders a more solid answer.
