Q.can I replant a gardenia that has root sytem intact?

I found a gardenia yesterday and haven’t yet replanted. Will it be ok? I would like to plant in a pot. I know nothing about gardening.

You can replant it. If it was uprooted, it may suffer from shock for a bit, but you can nurse it through that. Here is more information on how to do that:
