remove straw mulch from strawberries

Can I remove the straw mulch from my strawberries, even if we are almost certainly going to have more nights below freezing? I mulched my established strawberry bed with a heavy layer of straw last fall. Do I need to wait until we are frost-free (typically about 5/24) to remove it?

Since you know below-freezing nights are going to be a certainty, I recommend that you keep that mulch on your strawberries as long as possible, otherwise you risk frost or freeze damage.
