You certainly can sprinkle the coffee grounds on the ground around the roses and work it in a little bit. It is a great soils amendment and the gladiolas will love them too. I would not cover the new little bulbs with coffee grounds though as direct contact might cause some tissue burn. Cover those with some nice potting type soil and water lightly.
