I live in NJ. Can I plant pumpkin seeds now?

I would say yes, it is probably too late. In cooler parts of the country, the best time to plant pumpkin seeds is in late May and in warmer parts of the country, you can wait until mid July to plant pumpkins for Halloween. For more information, please visit the following link:
