Gardening Know How Questions & Answers - https://questions.gardeningknowhow.comI was given a small yellow rose plant for my bday. There are 4 tiny plants in a 4″ pot. First of all would it be wise to separate the 4 tiny plants? If I keep them in a container do I have to provide extra protection in the winter. I am in zone 4.

Yes the 4 roses should be separated into their own pots and probably 8 to 10 inch pots if they are to be left in pots. Make sure the pots have drainage holes in them. You will need to either provide extra protection for them during the winter or bring them inside and keep them in a sunny spot for the winter. Some folks will bury the pots down into big holes in the gardens for winter so they can mound up some soils around the roses. Then come spring dig it all up and place the pots where desired. You will want to wrap the outside of the main pot with some plastic to keep it from getting discolored from being in the ground.
