Q.can I feed my gardenias weekly?

Zone 11 | jannie5 added on April 18, 2012 | Answered

I’m trying to get the soil my gardenias in more acidic. I have been giving it Miracle Gro for acid loving plants, but I find that it’s still hovering around 7. I would like to get it to at least 6. If I feed it weekly, would that be too much? It is doing well and is in a container that came from the nursery. I bought it over a month ago and it’s full of buds at the moment.

Normally, you should only fertilize once in early spring and again in mid to late summer. Every week would be a bit much. This article will help with fertlilizing your gardenia: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/ornamental/flowers/gardenia/fertilizing-gardenias-in-your-garden.htm

Another way to help your soil would be to add or mix in some coffee grounds. A cup or two (depending on the size of the plant) once every few months is fine. Here is more information: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/composting/ingredients/coffee-grounds-gardening.htm
