Can I cut protruding root of dracaena without killing entire plant?

My dracaena has a 1 inch portion of healthy root system protruding from an hole in bottom of pot; Can I just cut that off or do I need to re-pot entire plant to larger pot without harm to exposed root system?

You can cut off the protruding root. However, if the plant has grown too big for its pot, it’s best to either repot it in a larger pot (a few inches larger diameter) or to prune it down to a more manageable size. One sign that it’s too large for the pot is if the soil in the whole pot goes dry again just a couple days after you’ve thoroughly watered it.
