Gardening Know How Questions & Answers - https://questions.gardeningknowhow.comCan I cut English holly shrubs back to the trunk and them come back out? I have about 5 holly bushes that are growing up and blocking the view out the windows of our home. I don’t really want to do away with them but they are too big. I live in the Nashville, Tennessee area and didn’t know if this should have been done in the winter. My holly bushes don’t have berries.

Pruning should take place in early summer.
A lighter pruning once a year is best.
Try to avoid heavy pruning as this can be to much stress for the holly and can increase the chance of disease.
Avoid removing any more then 1/3 of the plant at a pruning.
