Q.Can I Cut Down An Old Lavender Plant?
I have been given a very woody & leggy Lavender can I prune it down and will it produce new shoots? Then what is the best type of container and compost to repot it in?

Yes, but wait till spring to cut it back almost to the soil level. Lavender is a perennial and it needs very well draining soil. You can use potting soil with about one half of it perlite or use a mix for cacti and succulents. You also can make a mix of compost, sand and/or gravel. You can mulch it with pea gravel or other inorganic mulches. For containers, it should be large enough to cushion the root ball all around. Clay pots will help drainage. Here is more:
