I use saffron in cooking – are the stamens from my crocus suitable?

Not the spring crocus. It's the fall crocus (Crocus sativus) that has the edible saffron. It is very important to grow the right ones because there is an autumn-blooming flower commonly called autumn crocus or meadow saffron (Colchicum autumnale) that is poisonous.
