Can Hibiscus plants planted in the ground survive a winter in NC (not in the mountains)?

I am new to NC and planted 2 Hibiscus plants that are doing fantastic. If I leave them out side. Will they go dormant and come back next pring?

There are several types of hibiscus and the answer to your question depends on what type you have. If you have tropical hibiscus, it will not survive winter outdoors. It is often distinguished by very glossy leaves. It is often grown in containers so they can be moved indoors in cool weather. This article mentions the different types.
