Can a live palm tree or banana leaf type tree be planted in container without drainage?

No, all plants need a container with drainage. You can place rocks or something similar to create a space for water to pool; but this generally only works for a short time before root rot takes place.
You can plant in a plastic nursery pot and then place that pot into a container with no drainage hole.
