Can a flower kill a tree ?

Can the Lillies of the Valley Flowers kill trees ?

Have them planted around our Oak trees and have been told that they will kill the trees.

They won’t be able to kill a larger tree. They actually make a decent undercover for Oaks. They can be invasive in many areas, so you will want to be careful in planting these. You might not be able to control them once you do.

I recommend planting things like this in container. This will keep the control issue at bay, as they will have nowhere to go.
