Calla Lily

Question

Last year I potted my callas and watered and fertilized them. I did not realize I should cut the fertilizer after they began to bloom. The spadix (center) grew quite large and heavy, to the point the flower bent over. Is that because I fertilized too much? Don’t want this to happen again. . . do you know why the spadix became enlarged and heavy?

Fertilize monthly with an all-purpose fertilizer beginning in spring and continue throughout the growing season.
