Gardening Know How Questions & Answers - https://questions.gardeningknowhow.comI bought 2 calla lilies a week ago and within a couple of days I noticed that one had droopy leaves and those leaves were shriveling. When I tugged on those stems, they easily slid out of the soil and the ends that were in the soil were soft and mushy. The other one seemed healthy. We put them outside to acclimate to the weather before planting them, and they have been outside for several days (it’s been well above freezing here…in the 50’s at night.) Today I noticed that the blooms on both of them are not visible and the one that had droopy leaves before had even more. I probably pulled out 6-7 droopy, yellow looking stems that were mushy on the ends. The other one doesn’t look great, but it still looks healthy. What did I do wrong? We didn’t water them b/c we have had stormy weather. There was standing water in the bottom of the pots which we have since emptied, and the soil is very wet. However, the first one lost its leaf before we put it outside and we never watered these plants. Does it have a fungus or some other disease or did it not like the heat? We have had callas before and found them to be rather hardy. What do you think?

It sounds like you have some root rot, or bulb rot going on.
It is not normal to be able to pull the leaves from the bulbs and that you have soft and mushy stems.
If they bulbs themselves have rotted, they will not recover.
Soil should be moist but never soggy.
If you are leaving the potted plants outdoors, you should move them to a sheltered area so that the rain does not hit them.
Make sure the containers have drainage holes.
