Why do the flowers close up after a few weeks of blooming?

Well, the actual blooms only last a week or so, but the plant should be producing new blooms all the time during its season to replace the ones that fade. Is this a new planting or an established one? If it is new, did it have blooms on it when you planted it? Let us know this and it will help in pinpointing the issue.
