Gardening Know How Questions & Answers - https://questions.gardeningknowhow.comI was given a large purple “Dwarf Calla Lily” plant. It is 21″ from soil level so doesn’t seem to be “dwarf” to me.
My question is this: I live in Frisco, TX. which is just 25 miles NE of Dallas. The article I read on your site states “Callas are originally from Africa and require hot temperatures to promote flowering. They bloom the most in temperatures from 75-80 F. (24-27 C.). In proper conditions, calla lilies will bloom all summer long, with flowers lasting for up to a month on the plant.” The tag that came with the plant states “Great for placing on patios or in a sheltered place during the summer. Prefers indirect light and temperatures of 60-70 degrees F.”
It is mid 80s today but soon it will be in mid and high 90s every day and in low 100s some days in July and August. Must I treat this plant as a house plant and not put it outside in a large planter container ever?
I have only had the plant two weeks but little shoots at the bottom turned yellow and 4-6 stems with flowers have yellowed and died. The plant is in indirect but bright light. How should I care for this plant in my climate? Sure would appreciate your help. I love flowering plants and miss my beautiful garden of 35+ roses and all kinds of perennials in Sandy, Utah and as a transplant in Texas I am both too old to garden, except in planters, and unfamiliar with kinds of plants to grow in this dry heat.

A partial shade location in warm climate is a good location.
You can also plant in a morning sun and afternoon shade location.
