What does one do to butternut squash plants outside during winter? Mine are now all down and blackened by cold. Do I pull them out, cut them down, what? Can find any information.

Your Squash are most likely and hopefully matured and ready for harvesting.
Once harvested your plants can be pulled up and composted.
