It had rained three times this week and the butterfly bush got additional water from a water barrel overflow. It went from green to pretty much 90% dead looking in three days. Any diagnosis? Any prescription?

Is the soil draining or are the roots sitting in soggy soil?
If the roots remain in water or oversaturated soil, they can die from root rot.
There is little to be done if this is the case.
