Q.Bush Roses – Pruning Issue
I got too lazy to cut back my bush, and just dead-headed the flowers. I have never had a problem arise like I have not. There are multiple shoots on stems, and the thorns are farther apart on the stem (in space), and much sharper than usual. I am concerned that I may have done serious damage. The shoots do have roses on them, but it sure doesn’t look like it’s sister bush, which I had properly pruned. Should I cut back to just one new shoot? Should I just leave them until it’s time to prune for winter? Please advise. Thank you so much.

It sounds like your shrub has rose rosette disease. Read the attached article and look up images on the web to confirm my suspicion. Clean any tool that you have used on it. https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/ornamental/flowers/roses/rose-rosette-disease.htm
