Bugs On My ming aralias!

Question

We have many microscopic bugs on my Ming, have taken neem oil spray to no avail. Actually it dropped all its leaves but now it’s growing new sprouts but bugs persist! Did the neem injure it or should I continue using. I sprayed once a week for a month but didn’t touch the bugs.

There may be other issues with growing conditions and maintenance that is making the plant susceptible to the pest infestation.

Good soil fertility and water management are essential to build plant resistance to pests and diseases. How long has the plant been in the same pot? Do you fertilize?

There are many neem product formulations available, they are not all the same. None should cause a healthy plant to defoliate unless mixed in the wrong proportions. (70% neem oil concentrate is mixed at 2 tablespoons per gallon.) But if the plant is already stressed from water deficit and nutrient deficiency factors then you should be cautious with any substance applied.

Neem oil is not appropriate for an advanced pest infestation, it is best for preventive or early onset treatment. For an advanced infestation you may need a stronger pesticide product to get it under control.

It's important to identify the target pest and choose an appropriate control program. The insect or mite pest may be small, but if you can see it with the naked eye or a magnifying glass then you can possibly identify it. Possibilities include aphids, thrips, scale and mites.
