Q.Bugs In My Potted Soil.

Zone 98003 | blujay51 added on October 15, 2020 | Answered

I live in a condo on second floor so it’s hard for me to change the soil in my flower pots every time I plant something. This last spring/summer my plants didn’t look or do good. I believe my pots may have insects of some sorts. I never did see anything but my plants and bulbs did terrible. I’m getting ready to plant my bulbs and have been told to use molasses and warm water in soil to kill any microorganisms in the soil. Can you help me before I plant my bulbs. I don’t want to kill them. Thank you

It sounds like you have reused the potting mix past its usefulness. They are typically organic mixes that break down over time losing their fertility and drainage properties. I would pass on the molasses and invest in a new round of potting mix.
