Brown Spots and Apricots

I have an apricot tree in my backyard. Most years there are few or no apricots, but this year we have tons of them. However, about half of them are covered in small brown spots. They are getting riper every day and we hope to harvest some soon. My questions are: What causes this? Is it preventable? And are apricots which have these spots inedible? I’ll upload a photo of the apricots below.

THANK YOU!

This does sound like Ripe Fruit Rot.
If this is the case, there is little to be done this year except cleaning up the fruit and ground around the tree.
Then a preventative spraying schedule can be applied in the spring next year.
I’m listing other links with other possible issues, so you can compare all the symptoms with your tree to make sure your correctly identifying the problem.

Here is a link with common diseases of Apricot Trees.
