Brown leaves and limbs on tomatoes

I live in central Texas and every year the bottom leaves and limbs on my tomato plants turn brown and become brittle. Every fall these plants green up and produce up until the first freeze, sometimes not until December! I have always just left them on the plants and they seem to green up in the fall. Am I dreaming or should I remove this brown growth?

This is likely happening due to underwatering early on. Increase water for the first few weeks after planting to help clear this up.

You may not be dreaming about them greening up. If they start getting enough water and the main stem of the branch is not completely dead, it will regrow the leaves, thus appear as though it came back to life.
