I accidentally broke a few large and nicely curved branches on my Japanese Maple (Tamukeyama I think) when I attempted to put it in the back seat of my Hyundai Sonata. The tree had (past tense, before I broke the branches) a nice shape. Do I simply get a clean pair of pruners and cut the two broken/split branches that are still hanging on the tree/ Or is it possible to tape them up and try to save them? Or None of the above. I would very much appreciate your help.
Owner of a new and nice but wounded Acer Palmatum.

I’m sorry your Japanese Maple got injured! No guarantees, but you could try to “splice graft” the broken branches (you’re lucky: it will be easier to do this since they’re still on the tree!). If this seems too overwhelming, you could also prune them off, but I would only do that as a last resort.
