brand new lantana bush

I just planted 4 brand new 1 gallon size lantana bushes in my new rock garden in Mesa, AZ. I got up this morning and one of the plants is totally gone, eaten by something, no idea what. I read that rabbits do not eat these due to it being a very poisonous plant to them. HELP.

I did plant a yellow and a red one right next to each other.

Insects can eat lantana, but it sounds like yours was attacked by a larger animal. It is true that lantana is poisonous to most mammals, but sometimes animals will get confused or are hungry enough to eat something that’s not the best for them. If that’s what happened, the culprit will probably get sick and be smart enough not to eat your other plants.
