Box Gardening

I have a small patio. I can build a 6 x 6 box in the space I have. I was going to use 2 x 10’s for this.  Should I lay plastic on the bottom with stone and then my soil, or should I leave out the plastic? I’m just trying this for first time,  some veggies and maybe a couple tomatoes.

Plastic does not hurt and can help keep moisture from the wood, which means it will take longer for the wood to rot and, therefore, it will be a longer time until you have to replace the box. But plastic can also trap water in the box. Normally this is not an issue, but if you live in an area that gets a lot of rain, it could cause problems. Which way you go will be up to you.
