Bonsai Ficus Tree Cutting And Transplanting

I am not certain about the name of this plant but my son bought it at Ikea years ago and i think it was some sort of bonsai ficus tree? As you can see from the picture, it is growing sideways. There are several cut off branches and my question is if leaves will ever grow on those branches? Is it ok to cut the whole long branch in half to balance it out? Also, does it look like it needs a bigger pot? Thank you.
