Q.Bleeding Heart Disease
My Bleeding Heart ( just one clump of them for now) seems to have some kind of disease. First the stems started to turn a almost dark ‘purply’ color, then started to wilt & fall over. Other years this particular plant has gotten upwards of 4 feet & bloomed all summer. I cut off one half of it & the remainder seems fine, although the flowers aren’t lasting & the other half started to regrow but is now having the same problem (my pics are taken this morning, I have none from the really dark stems). This clump has been there for about 8-9 years with no issues. Any suggestions ? I was thinking samarium wilt but leaves are not yellowing, & I couldn’t find anything bleeding heart ‘specific’. I want to take care of this before it spreads.
Check soil moisture, is the soil is poorly draining, it can cause fungus issues and even root rot.
Adding good organic amendments each spring helps soil drainage.
Warm temperatures can start the plant into it's natural life cycle of dying back after flowering.
