Q.Blackened Bark on Crape Myrtle
Three of my 10-year-old crape myrtle trees have a blackened bark and now show some traces of an orange. Leaves are drying or branches have not leafed out. I have 17 trees, all same color in the general area. The others look great. My only worry is that these three may have been in low area which had standing water this winter. Help!!
It sounds like a combination of stress from the standing water has made the trees susceptible to insect damage. Normally that kind of bark problem is due to aphid infestation. Insecticidal soap should help get it under control. Please see this article for more information:
