Geofull added on March 21, 2012 | Answered

Sorry I don’t know my gardening zone.

I live in Ottumwa, Iowa and found your planting instructions very informative. You say to fertilize on a regular bases. What type of fertilizer is best for the blackberry bush??

How far apart should the bushes be planted??

Appreciate the help – have a good day.

Use a high phosphorus fertilizer. This will help with berry production.

Space them about 2-4 feet apart.

Blackberry like muscadines like LIMEY soil. I use a 10-10-10 fertilizer and I use a 1/4 pound per plant in a 12 ince circle if planted 3 to 4 feet apart or row both side if planted closer. I do this April 1 ; May 1 ; June 1. Then I do Calcium Nitrate the same way on April 15 ; May 15 ; june 15.
