BLACK PEPPER VINE

DOES THIS PLANT HAVE FLOWERS TO MAKE THE PEPPERCORNS? WHEN SHOULD IT BLOOM?? IT HAS SMALL ‘SPIKES’ AT EACH JOINT OF THE VINE, WHAT DO THEY DO?

These will flower in very long clusters. The spikes at each joint can be new shoot growth, or new bloom growth. If you can send a picture then it will help me to identify what is going on.
