Q.Birch Tree Miner? Drought? Please Advise?

My small birch tree in a large pot has suddenly got some brown and partially brown crispy leaves, and other leaves that are strangely dotted. It was infested with white fly so I soaked all the leaves with soapy water. this happened immediately after. Did I do a bad thing, or is it some kind of coincidental virus nothing to do with the soapy water. Thankyou to whoever can offer me advice. (my entire garden seems to be being consumed by different things at the moment!
