Best Perennials for Harsh Conditions

My county location is in the middle of Rhode Island; however, the property (gardening) location I am interested in planting is (the front of my house) southern side, which receives constant and direct sun all day long from aproximately 11:00 am till 8:00 pm every day. I have purchased many different plants/shrubs that say ‘Full Sun’ for my back deck, which gets a little less sun, and yet they too do not seem to hold up to the heat/sun! I’m looking for perennial/plants and shrubs that will withstand the dry hot conditions.
