Best Location for Planting Fig Trees

We have just been given 2 small fig trees – about a foot high at the moment. We are unsure of where to place them. We’ve been told against a wall is ideal, but we don’t have a spare spot. We have woods on the south side of the house and the main garden at the back (about 1/2 an acre) faces west. North side is shaded as is the east so not much sunlight for plants. We live in MD between Washington, DC and Baltimore. We’ve also been told to wrap them in burlap over winter. Just need to know where to place them.

If you do not have a good planting area at the moment, you can simply grow them in containers for now, where you can easily move them to a suitable location for overwinter protection. They will require a sunny location, so wherever you get the most sunlight, I would suggest placing them.
