Q.BER On Tomatoes

Zone Connecticut zone 6 | Anonymous added on July 29, 2025 | Answered

I planted 2 Earthboxes with tomatoe seedlings I grew myself. The soil was brand new in both boxes. Each box had the same soil. One box had Roadster tomatoe plants and the other had Jet Setter tomatoes. I’m getting ripe Roadster tomatoes now but all have BER. The other box with the Jet Setter tomatoes have no BER. I had problems with BER last year with the Roadsters and tried them again this year with the same problem BER. QUESTION…are some tomato seeds more suseptable to BER than others since no BER with the Jet Setters ??

Yes, while no tomatoes are resistant to blossom end rot, some varieties seem to be more susceptible. These articles should help:

https://ipm.illinois.edu/diseases/series900/rpd906/

This article lists tomatoes resistant to disease and disorders. BER would be a disorder.
