Green Beans

Q.Beans Not Sprouting

I planted green beans and they are growing very well across a trellis. I built above them. I have seen a few flowers, but have not seen any beans growing yet. They have been in the ground approximately 7 to 8 weeks. Any thoughts as to why no beans are actually growing on the plant?

If you fertilize the soil, make sure to cut back on nitrogen. Legumes develop a relationship with beneficial microbes in the soil and produce their own nitrogen. Too much will inhibit fruiting. You may try adding some potassium. It helps pod formation. Just be sure to keep an eye on the levels, though. Too much will lock out calcium and magnesium.
