Bananas

I live in UK and just uncovered my banana plants and noticed the flower pod had formed in the winter. Unfortunately, we had some late frosts. There are no leaves. Will new leaves be produced?

Many thanks,
Peter Poernig

It is doubtful that any new leaves will form. Depending on how cold and how much the flower and plant suffered from the cold, the flower may or may not open.
The flower stalk should start to open from the leathery cover. Tiny white flowers will emerge and then little bananas form.

After a Banana plant produces a flower and fruit, it won’t produce any more fruit and is generally removed from the garden. You can then plant again.
