Balloon Flower Plant

I have a balloon plant (Platycodon) in a rail box. This is my first balloon plant and I don’t know what to expect for the change of seasons. The plant was flowering like crazy in June and July. . .then slowed down to almost nothing in August. Just this week it started changing color and the entire plant is yellow. Is it dying on me. . . or is it going into fall?

This perennial plant flowers from summer to early fall, with heaviest flowering coming in mid to late summer. The cold hardy plant can be grown in sun or partial shade and in moist, but well-draining, soil. This is important. Balloon plants need a lot of moisture and it is possible that yours have become too dry. Pinch back dead blooms and apply mulch for winter protection. Watering should be cut back during winter.
